Made in Austria, Built in the Cloud

The event was hosted by der brutkasten and Amazon Web Services (AWS) and took place virtually. Dominik Angerer (Founder and CEO at Storyblok) and Peter Lasinger (Founder & General Partner at 3VC) spoke with Daniel Zielinski (AWS) about how Storyblok grew into a successful international startup under the radar.

Discussing how Storyblok became one of the leading headless CMS solutions originating from Austria, Dominik addresses the reason for the global customer base in the global first approach. A software product that is published on the internet is instantly available worldwide. Storyblok, being a cloud SaaS solution, quite naturally become a global product that is communicated and marketed in English. Developers, in need of easy-to-use content management solutions, exist in all parts of the world; therefore it makes sense for it to not be exclusively available in Austria or any other geographical region.

Peter Lasinger says, "I see my role as a VC to not get in the way and help to highlight where pitfalls can be avoided“ when talking about the day-to-day cooperation between a startup and a venture capital firm. Focusing on a global market, Peter points out that the beauty of software is that it is broadly applicable and doesn’t need a lot of customization for each market.

Last, but not least, the role of the cloud and, specifically AWS, was also discussed in this session. Cloud infrastructure takes away the stress of scaling, caching, and building performant systems. And on top of that, using cloud infrastructure saves a lot of expenses when it comes to running and certifying your IT. This is also true when you want to expand into new regions like China, where Storyblok also runs a local version of the headless CMS.
